i have a itouch 1st gen with a cracked screen and dented back.i dont know what was damaged when the back go hit from whatever.i know that the screen has a brightness problem and it has a bad connection with everything (you have to twist the ipod to find the magic spot 4 it to power on)all the buttons work

the missing backlight is caused because the screen broke when it was dented. for your dock connector. shine into it with a small flashlight. If you see any misaligned pins push them back in position with a small flathead. if you see any debris, remove it with a needle. if your dock connector doesn't work after that, you have to open your iPod touch and resolder it. let me know if you need more instructions on that.
