iPod classic shows red x

I have an Ipod Classic that is showing a "use itunes to restore" however when I plug into the computer (which has the most updated itunes) it has a big X and just says www.apple/ipod/support I have tried what they have online about resetting it but it doesn't work.

my ipod shows recovery and conect to computer; i conected many times but, nothing

I JUST BOUGHT A 120GB IPOD CLASSIC & HAVE THE SAME CASE AS THE ONE ABOVE. TRIED ALL TO RESET& DIDNT WORK. I LISTEN CLOSE TO MY EAR THE IPOD WHILE THE RED X SHOWN & HEAR SOFT BUZING SOUND. I ASSUMED IT HAVE A HARD DRIVE ISSUE. ANY BODY HAS ANY IDEA WHAT TO DO WITH IT???
