Toshiba Laptop - Power cord does not connect

When I plug in the power cord, the laptop does not start charging. when I unplug the cord and plug it right back again, It connects for only a few seconds. The connection feels loose. what can do to get this up and running again, any help much appreciated.

a very common problem : your dc-jack is detached from the logic board. somebody needs to open your laptop and solder the dc-jack back on. check for local repair service, don't let them tell you that you need a new logic board, this can be fixed.

Well you can't rule out the possibility of it being a motherboard. Regardless whether or not the connection feels loose for you, if a sign of light comes up when you plug it in, it may mean your board is indeed receiving power. You can try and jiggle the connection on it to see if it stayed lid aswell.
