Before you begin
Read this website's Legal Guidelines and make sure you understand the risks of this repair. Place your iPad on a clean flat and soft surface, such as a rubber mat or a piece of soft cloth and get the required opening tools

Step 2
Insert a safe open tool at the top left corner of the device. The blade of the tool needs to be between the seal and the (aluminum backplate).

Step 3
This is the best spot to insert the safe open tool.

Step 4
This is what it looks like when the blade is fully inserted between seal and ipad backplate.

Step 5
In the next step you will use a regular putty knive and insert it into the gap previously created with the safe open tool. In the left upper corner you see a suction lifter that you can use in addition to pull up the touch panel while prying.

Step 6
Move the putty knive around the corner and carefully insert it between the seal and the backplate. Pry the touchpanel upward until you hear the clips come loose. The blue flathead screwdriver you see in addition has the purpose of keeping the touchpanel from snapping back in when you move the knife after prying.
Move around the entire device and pry until all clips are loose. When you make progress, insert a flathead to secure your progress.

Step 10
As soon as the touchpanel becomes detached, you can lift it carefully. Make sure to not make any rapid movements to keep the ribbon cables underneath from tearing.

Step 13
These are the two connector latches for the ipad digitizer. Carefully open the first one with a sharp safe open tool.

Step 12
Open the second latch of the digitizer connector.

Step 15
This is what it looks like when the iPad digitizer ribbon cable is released.

Step 16
Release the iPad menu button connector.

Step 17
Now you can lift the front panel a little more as shown in the image.

Step 18
Near the backplate there is the antenna connector.

Step 19
Carefully release the iPad antenna connector.

Step 20
Now take a look at the LCD connector - flip open the metal belt that is holding the connector in place.

Step 21
This is what is looks like when the locking belt is open.

Step 22
Carefully unplug the iPad LCD connector.

Step 23
The front panel is now fully separated from the the backplate with the iPad battery and iPad logic board.

Step 24
This is what the front panel looks like when removed from the backplate and motherboard. Please not that other guides recommend taking off the LCD panel from the frontplate to replace the iPad digitizer. We have found it easier and less risky to leave the iPad LCD installed. Ultimately this decision is up to you. If you are not careful to keep the LCD from being bent or pressured, it will break with either method.
