T-Mobile myTouch 3G Repair Guide

Before you begin

Read this website's Legal Guidelines and make sure you understand the risks of this repair. Place your T-Mobile myTouch 3G on a clean flat and soft surface, such as a rubber mat or a piece of soft cloth and get the required opening tools

Turn your myTouch 3G on the front and remove the battery door.

Step 3

Remove the battery.

Step 4

Take note of the Torx screws on all sides that hold the backplate in place.

Step 5

Remove the screws as indicated in the pictures: the screw on the left hand side of the back that needs to be removed.

Remove the Torx screw on the bottom of the mytouch.

Step 10

Remove the Torx screw at the top.

Step 13
Remove the second Torx screw at the bottom.

Step 12

You can now take off the antenna cover on the bottom.

Step 16

With all the screws removed you can now pry the backlate off from the mytouch using the safe opening tool.

Step 17

Work your way along the edge wtih the safe opening tool so that every latch holding it together is released so it can be taken off.

Step 18

Remove the plastic backplate from the phone. The logicboard is underneath.

Step 19

Remove all phillips screws visible that hold the two logic boards in place as indicated in the image.

Step 20

Remove the Phillips screws on the top logic board.

Step 21

Remove the Phillips left screws on the top logic board.

Step 22

Now the ribbon cable at the top of the phone can be released from the connector. It's best to use the safe open tool for this step, ignore what you see in the image.

Step 23

Ease it off with a tool so that you do not tear the ribbon cable. Work slowly and patiently.

Step 24

There is a small ribbon cable in the center of the top logic board near the battery compartment that needs to be removed from the logicboard.

This one is smaller and is on the bottom half of the phone.

Again remove the cable using a safe open tool, so that you do not tear the cable or short or damage the contacts.

Now the logicboard can be lifted out of the casing. Make sure you do this from the side that had the large ribbon cable attached first. It is from left to right if you are looking at it properly from top to bottom.

Once lifted from the one side it can then be turned over to remove an antenna connect and another ribbon cable.

Remove both connections carefully.

We are not going to lift off the bottom myTouch 3G logicboard.

DO THIS SLOWLY. There are 2 more ribbon cables underneath that need to disconnect without being torn.

They should naturally come off. But do it slowly to make sure.

Now the second myTouch 3G logicboard can be fully removed.

This is what the mytouch looks like when both logicboards are removed. You can now reassemble your myTouch 3G with the new parts following the steps in reverse order.

If you continue assembly of the front plate you can replace the myTouch 3G Screen as well.

T-Mobile Sidekick 2008 - Trackball Replacement

Before you begin

Read this website's Legal Guidelines and make sure you understand the risks of this repair. Place your T-Mobile Sidekick 2008 on a clean flat and soft surface, such as a rubber mat or a piece of soft cloth and get the required opening tools.

First you need to take off the battery then remove the backplate.

Step 5

Remove the screw on the top corner. They need to be removed using a Torx screwdriver.

Step 6

Then remove the screw on the bottom corner.

Step 7

Then on the other side there is a small plastic protective panel that needs to be removed in order to access the other 2 screws.

Step 8

Unscrew using the Torx again the screw at the top.

Step 9

Also remove the screw at the bottom.

Step 10

This is just the view with all 4 torque screws taken out from the back of the sidekick.

Step 11

There is one more that needs to be removed and that is right below the sticker that was behind the battery.

Flip the phone over and flip open the screen.

Step 12

Hold the screen half way open and you will expose 2 Torx screws that need to be removed.

Step 15

Once the 2 screws are removed you can then fully take off the screen with the hinge attatched.

Step 16

Now that all the screws have been removed holding the sidekick together you can now seperate the front plate from the backplate. Take your time with this and use the green tool to help you create space between the to plates. The plates are snapped together by hinges that need to be released. The green tool does this well by working it around the device inside the space between them.

Step 17

You can now remove your trackball and replace it with a new one.

T-Mobile (HTC) G1 Screen Replacement

Before you begin

Read this website's Legal Information Section and make sure you understand the risks of this repair and are qualified for this repair. Place your T-Mobile G1 on a clean flat and soft surface, such as a rubber mat or a piece of soft cloth and get the required opening tools

Step 1

Slide out the G1 screen to expose the keyboard and turn your HTC G1 face down.

Please note that these pictures were taken with the logic board removed, although it is not necessary to remove it to perform a screen replacement.

Step 2

Start with the screw that is the most difficult to reach. To get to this screw you have to overextend the screen sliding mechanism. You have to apply some force to push the screen assembly out enough to fully expose the screw.

Step 3

Remove the two other screws at the outside edge of the screen. Insert the safe open tool in the seam between backlate and frontplate of the screen housing.

Step 4

Slide the tool to the opposite edge and twist it gently to release the backplate.

Step 5

Lift the backplate further by holding on to its sides and pulling.

Step 6

The shielding tape need to be removed to expose the G1 earspeaker connector. Careful not to tear any of the ribbon cables.

Step 7

The G1 microphone connector is the small connector on the left. Click on the image to enlarge. Use the safe open tool to carefully open the latch.

Step 8

Turn the assembly around to release the screen connector.

Step 9

Use the safe open tool to release the screen connector.

Step 10

Now you should be able to pull the screen out of the assembly. In the middle toward the right you see the T-Mobile G1 screen connector when it is released.

You fully removed the G1 LCD screen, for reassembly follow the steps in reverse order.

Before you begin

Read Legal Information Section and make sure you understand the risks of this repair. Place your T-Mobile G1 on a clean flat and soft surface, such as a rubber mat or a piece of soft cloth and get the required opening tools

Step 1

Turn you T-Mobile (HTC) G1 around and remove the battery cover using a safe open tool.

Step 2

Remove the battery and the sim-card.

Step 3

Now you are ready to remove the torx screws holding the phone together.

Step 4

Remove the torx T5 screws on the sides of the frame.

Step 5

Remove the Torx T6 screw under the seal.

Step 6

Once all screws are remove you can use the safe open tool to remove the frame from the -Mobile G1 midboard.

Step 7

Keep inserting in different sections of the frame to release it from the clips.

Step 8

The top of the frame will come loose first.

Step 9

Now address the section of the frame on the bottom of the phone.

Step 10

You can now completely release the frame from the midboard.

Step 11

Remove the screws of the T-Mobile G1 wifi-module and logic board.

Step 12

Release the T-Mobile G1 antenna cable connector.

Step 15

Peel off the adhesive insulating tape covering connector on the top left side.

Step 16

Use the safe open tool to release the latch mechanism. Be careful, the latch is very fragile.

Step 17

Use the safe open tool to pull the right side of the ribbon cable out of the connector.

Step 18

Repeat the same on the left side.

Step 19

Remove the yellow adhesive tape and release the ribbon cable at the top from the connector.

Step 20

This is what it looks like when it is removed.

Push the black plastic clip holding the T-Mobile G1 logic board in place toward the outside.

This is what it looks like when the clip is released.

Remove the yellow tape on the T-Mobile G1 camera connector.

Open the latch.

You can now flip the board upward.

There are two more connectors under the shielded adhesive tape.

Release the connector.

Remove the second piece of tape and release the connector.

You have successfully removed the T-Mobile G1 motherboard, for reassembly follow the steps in reverse order.
