Amazon Kindle 1 Before you begin

  • Read this website's Legal Guidelines and make sure you understand the risks of this repair. Place your Amazon Kindle 1 on a clean flat and soft surface, such as a rubber mat or a piece of soft cloth and get the required kindle opening tools

  •  

    Turn your Amazon Kindle 1 on its back.

    Step 2

    Remove the kindle 1 battery door and the battery.

    Step 3

    This is what it looks like when the kindle battery cover is removed.

    Step 4

    Use a green tool to pry the kindle 1 battery upward.

    Step 5

    Gently pull the kindle battery wire to release it from the connector.

    Step 6

    Remove the screws surrounding the battery compartment.

    Step 10

    Remove the back cover using the spudger as shown in the image.

    Step 13

    Now the plastic backplate should come loose from the Amazon Kindle 1 logic board and front assembly.

    Step 12

    Remove the screw holding the antenna cable cover.

    Step 15

    Remov the screws holding the logic board shield.

    Step 16

    Remove the screws at the front of the logic board shield.

    Step 17

    Now you can lift the shield as shown in the image.

    Step 18

    This is what it looks like when the shield is completely removed and placed next to the front assembly.

    Step 19

    Remove the screws of the Amazon Kindle SD card reader module.

    Step 20

    This is what it looks like when all screws of the SD card module are removed.

    Step 21

    This is what is looks like when the SD card module is lifted away from the front assembly.

    Step 22

     

    Open the SD Module ribbon cable latch and remove the module.

    Step 23

    Remove all screws that hold the kindle 1 logic board in place.

    Step 24

     

    Disconnect the kindle speaker connector shown in the image.

    Step 25

     

    Open the remaining ribbon cable latches.

    Step 26

     

    Open the latch of the Kindle scroll wheel ribbon cable.

    Step 27

     

    Open the latch of the Kindle 1 screen ribbon cable.

    Open the latch of the kindle side button board ribbon cable.

    Step 29

     

    Open the latch of the Kindle On/Off Wifi switch module.

    Step 30

     

    Disconnect the Kindle wifi antenna.

    Step 31

     

    Remove the screw holding the plastic part the covers the wifi antenna cable.

    Step 32

     

    Carefull peel the antenna module off the front plate.

    Step 33

     

    Move the safe open tool towards the middle to release the antenna from the glue.

    Step 34

     

    This is what it looks like when the module is detached from the front plate.

    Step 35

     

    Now you should be able to carefully lift the entire kindle 1 logic board. Keep the ribbon cables from getting trapped and tearing.

    Step 36

     

    This is what the kindle logic board looks like when fully removed from the frontplate.

    Remove the screws holding the midboard to the frontplate.

    Step 38

     

    Remove the screws of the kindle scroll wheel.

    Step 39

     

    Remove the screws of the kindle switch module.

    Amazon Kindle 2   Before you begin

    Turn your Amazon Kindle 2 on its back.

     

    Step 2

    Insert the green tool at the gap between the kindle 2 backplate and the kindle 2 antenna cover.

      

    Step 3

     
    This is what it looks like when the separation was successful. You can now lift the cover up and remove it.

      

    Step 4

     
    This is what it looks like when the cover is removed. Turn the kindle around and look at it from the bottom.

      

    Step 5

    You will see two screws holding the battery door in place.
    Remove the screw on the left holding the kindle 2 back cover to the front panel.

      

    Step 6

    Remove the corresponding screw on the right side.

      

    Step 10

    Remove the back cover using the spudger as shown in the image and you will expose the kindle 2 motherboard and kindle 2 battery.

      

    Step 13

    Now the plastic backplate should come loose from the Amazon Kindle 2 logic board and front assembly.

      

    Step 12

    Open the latch of the ribbon cable controlling the kindle side buttons as shown in image.

      

    Step 15

    Open the latch of the ribbon cable controlling the kindle 2 screen as shown in image.

      

    Step 16

    Remove the screws at the bottom of the kindle 2 mainboard .

      

    Step 17

    Now you can GENTLY lift the kindle 2 screen panel as shown in the image.

      

    Step 18

    Gently, gently slide the safe open tool blade around the kindle 2 e-ink screen to release the adhesive.

      

    Step 19

    This is what the Kindle logic board looks like when separated.  

      

    Step 20

    This is what it looks like when the kindle 2 lcd screen is completely removed.
    For re-assembly follow the steps in reverse order using a new screen.

    Before you begin

    This is what the kindle dx looks like from the top.


    Step 2

    Flip the Kindle DX so that you are looking at the back cover of the Kindle DX.


    Step 3

    Use the green tool to create some space between the plastic top piece and the large silver kindle DX back panel.


    Step 4

    There are 2 clips that need to be released that are holding the plastic top piece in place.


    Step 5

    When the 2 clips are released you will see some space between the plastic top piece and the silver bottom.  At this point you can remove the plastic kindle DX antenna cover from the device.


    Step 6

    Use a philips head screwdriver to remove the philips head screw below the antenna cover


    Step 10

    You can then slide the silver kindle DX back panel off by pushing it towards the bottom. Now you can see the battery, the 3G module and parts of the kindle dx motherboard.


    Step 13

    There are 2 philips screws that need to be removed to take out the kindle DX battery.


    Step 12

    Once the screws are removed you can use the green tool to lift it up and out of the casing.

    This is what the Kindle DX looks like without the battery.


    Step 16

    This is the Kindle DX battery once it is removed from the device.
