Read this website's Legal Information Section and make sure you understand the risks of this repair and are qualified for this repair. Place your T-Mobile G1 on a clean flat and soft surface, such as a rubber mat or a piece of soft cloth and get the required opening tools
Step 1
Slide out the G1 screen to expose the keyboard and turn your HTC G1 face down.
Please note that these pictures were taken with the logic board removed, although it is not necessary to remove it to perform a screen replacement.
Step 2
Start with the screw that is the most difficult to reach. To get to this screw you have to overextend the screen sliding mechanism. You have to apply some force to push the screen assembly out enough to fully expose the screw.
Step 3
Remove the two other screws at the outside edge of the screen. Insert the safe open tool in the seam between backlate and frontplate of the screen housing.
Step 4
Slide the tool to the opposite edge and twist it gently to release the backplate.
Step 5
Lift the backplate further by holding on to its sides and pulling.
Step 6
The shielding tape need to be removed to expose the G1 earspeaker connector. Careful not to tear any of the ribbon cables.
Step 7
The G1 microphone connector is the small connector on the left. Click on the image to enlarge. Use the safe open tool to carefully open the latch.
Step 8
Turn the assembly around to release the screen connector.
Step 9
Use the safe open tool to release the screen connector.
Step 10
Now you should be able to pull the screen out of the assembly. In the middle toward the right you see the T-Mobile G1 screen connector when it is released.
Step 11
You fully removed the G1 LCD screen, for reassembly follow the steps in reverse order.
