Blackberry Storm   Before you begin

  • Read the legal information section and make sure you are qualified to attempt this repair. Place your Blackberry Javelin 8900 on a clean flat and soft surface, such as a rubber mat or a piece of soft cloth and get the required opening tools

  •  

     

    Turn your Blackberry Javelin 8900 on its front.

     

    Step 2

    Remove the battery door and the battery.

      

    Step 3

    Remove the screws under the battery compartment.

      

    Step 4

    Remove the screws on top of the battery compartment.

      

    Step 5

    Turn the Blackberry Javelin 8900 around and pry off the microphone cover at the top using a plastic opening tool. Remove any screws you find underneath.

      

    Step 6

    Turn the Blackberry Javelin 8900 around again and remove the antenna cover using the spudger as shown in the image.

      

    Step 10

    Remove the torx screws you find under the antenna cover.

      

    Step 13

    Now the plastic frame should come loose from the Blackberry Javelin 8900 midboard.

      

    Step 12

    This is what it looks like when the frame is removed.

      

    Step 15

    Release the antenna cable from the Blackberry Javelin 8900 logic board.

      

    Step 16

    Release the Blackberry Javelin 8900 keyboard connector.

      

    Step 17

    Now you can lift the logic board as shown in the image.

      

    Step 18

    The keyboard becomes fully exposed.

      

    Step 19

    Release the Blackberry Javelin 8900 screen connector.

      

    Step 20

    Now the Blackberry Javelin 8900 logic board is fully disconnected.

      

    Step 21

    This is what is looks like when the logic board is removed from the frontplate.

      

    Step 23

    Remove the midboard from the frontplate using the opening tool.

      

    Step 24

    Turn the midboard around. If you want to replace the Blackberry Javelin 8900 screen carefully release it from the midboard.

      

    Step 25

    The frontplate, midboard and logic board separated from each other. You can see the trackball in the center of the frontplate.

      

    Step 26

    The Blackberry Javelin 8900 trackball is compatible with trackballs from other blackberries if you are indifferent about its color. Just take it out of the frontplate if it needs replacement.

    You have fully disassembled your Blackberry Javelin 8900, for re-assembly follow the steps in reverse order.
