Magelan does not turn on

Postby L7quotes » Fri Dec 18, 2009 3:48 pm

I have a Magelan 1412 GPS unit & I would like to determine if it can be repaired. The unit does not power on. It was a refurbished unit I bought 10 months ago. Any Ideas on what are typical problems with these units and what part may be broken?

Look at the DC-Jack/ charging port and move it around with an inserted plug or screwdriver. does it seem loose? then the jack need soldering.
Did it get wet or drop? It's probably a logic board issue.
Did the battery runtime decrease over time? Your battery may have given up all together now. Some Magellan GPS devices will not start up unless the battery has a certain charge level.

if you have to wiggle the plug to get the magellan to charger there is no question that your dc-jack is faulty and needs to be resoldered. if you have a phillips screwdriver and some soldering experience you can attempt the repair yourself, there are analogous disassembly instructions at this GPS Repair Guide. If you need a service to do it just google "GPS repair" and you will find places.
