iPod Touch 1G Water Damage Repair

Postby Meetloaf » Sun Nov 22, 2009 12:54 am

Hello,

I have a 32GB iPod Touch 1G that recently suffered some water damage. Long story short, without my knowing water infiltrated approx the bottom inch of the iPod. I do not think it was submerged. I let it dry for several days, and I tried turning it on, and plugging it in, to no avail. I have completely dissembled it cleaned up the corrosion as best as I can and reassembled it. Now, the iPod connects to my computer, and I was able to sync/backup everything.

There still remains one problem though. The screen does not work, not only does it not turn on visually, but the touch sensor does not work (I'm guessing they are part of the same process/power source). There's still noticeable corrosion on both the male and female connectors of the black screen ribbon.

What is the best way to remove this? I've tried Denatured alcohol , as well as an eraser, the only problem is it's difficult to get in the little crevices.

Thanks
Meetloaf

the digitizer not working and the lcd not showing anything are separate issues. if you've removed all corrosion without achieving and improvement, there are defective traces or components. couldn't think of a way to recover this logic board.
