headphone jack trouble.

Postby johnny gaijin » Thu Mar 04, 2010 8:04 am

my headphone jack quit working in my 1st gen ipod touch.

so i followed this tutorial:

http://www.portatronics.com/guide/iPod- ... air-Guide/

which got the left channel to work but the right is still non-functional.

so i assume i have to pull up more contact springs and repeat the process but i'm not sure what i have to solder... does the next contact spring go the the next contact on the board? does it also go to the first one? or is there some random order i need to know?

thanks in advance!

Yes the second contact spring (located next to the one you already fixed) is for the other channel. I'm surprised though that both contact springs are worn out, extremely rare and somewhat unlikely. If you look at the ribbon cable closely before you disconnect it (or look at the image in the guides closely) you will notice the slightly darker traces inside the ribbon cable. Those traces show you how the contact springs connect to the motherboard. Just recreate those traces by soldering the in the jumper, after you work on the second contact spring.
