When I try to restore my friend's iphone i get "your iPhone is not eligible for the requested build". I don't get it, I'm using iTunes 6.1, it's downloading 3.1.3, why can't i restore
it with the latest firmware that iTunes chooses to download from the server?
Restore says "not eligible for the requested build" but 3.1.

Your friend probably accidentally restored it to 4.0 previously. The reason why you're not getting 4.0, is that your iTunes is not the latest version. If you upgrade to iTunes 6.2, it will download 4.0 and it will restore just fine.
