It either the button itself, the contact between button and logic board or the logic board. It's more likely to be the contact springs. Open the iPhone front and extend and clean the contact springs. If that fails, measure the button with a multimeter (see if it will close when you push the button). If it doesn't close, replace the button. If both the button works and the contacts are clean and extended, there is an issue with your logic board.
