Hello.
Would really appreciate your help.
1. I'm not sure how exactly it happened, but I currently have a 1/8 inch gap between the white top cover and aluminum back cover on the right bottom quadrant of my Kindle 2 (from around where 3 o'clock would be on a clock face, to 6 o'clock). Elsewhere, the two covers meet fine, although there is a teeny, 1/2 inch long hairline crack at the corner of the opening for the recharger plug, probably due to the gap.
2. Pressing the top and back covers together didn't fix the gap at all, so I looked up the Kindle 2 repair manual page of this great site and managed to get to Step 6, where the top gray cover and two Philip screws have been removed.
3. However - I can't detach the aluminum cover. The photos and text don't quite illuminate how exactly that comes off. (http://www.portatronics.com/guide/images/ebook/kindle2/007.jpg and 008.jpg) Do I apply pressure along the Kindle's back, pushing/sliding the aluminum cover down toward the recharger socket opening, or do i insert a spudger where the Philip screws were and press down to force a gap there?
Would really appreciate any tips. (Incidentally, does the volume toggle thing fall off when you detach the aluminum cover or does it stay in place?)
Thank you very much.
