Kindle 1 button doesn't toggle

Kindle 1 button doesn't toggle, what can I do to fix this?

I see that two people asked this questions, but don't see any answers! My button presses, but the function I press doesn't happen, i.e. I press close and the screen doesn't close, i press menu and the menu screen doesnt come up. Any help?
